HI all,

2008 December 20th to early January (MAX. of three weeks)

2009 30th June to 30th August (2months)

Please tell me which one of these would you recomend and what is the weather like duting the june to August times.

Depends what you like. In late December/Jan it can range from 20 to 43 degrees Celcius. Although pretty consistantly it will be around high 20's.

From June to August it's our winter, so if you like it a little bit colder it'll be around 13-25 degrees Celcius (high teens most the time)

Also note that late December/Jan is the peak holiday season, so there will probably be more things to do, and weather will be a lot more pleasant for beaches etc. And you might wanna see the NYE fireworks in Sydney! Given that you wouldn't be paying for more expensive accomodation (as you stay with family) I'd say this time would be better :)

I was up in NewCastle between Christmas and NYE, and it was beautiful! The beaches where very nice! Weather not too hot. If you came in june/july, youd want a full length wetsuit if you wanted to go in the water, but not around Christmas.
