Hello out there,

I am organised to go to Kenya and volunteer this June 08, and am a little dubious about going in light of the recent unrest. Is there anyone either over there now or been there recently and could share how they feel the country is going. Safety wise.
thanks
Deidre

Hi Diedre,

As at the moment we have the mass protests that began yesterday. While they should be peacefull the police are breaking them roughly. we are watching though.

Are u saying that the people were demonstrating peacefully and the police still used violence to restrain them Lilash?
How awful if that is the case.:(

mel, yesterdays demos were somehow peaceful. if it were not for he police breaking the demos then things would have gone well. In Kisumu - Western Kenya, they shot 2 people with one dying on the spot. As of today there are no protests yet but they may start anytime from now.

Police in Kenya have such a terrible reputation.
Here is a video clip of them in action as Lilash describes.

And I might as well include a news blog of the situation while I am at it.
