I am going to Vietnam in 3 weeks time for three weeks. We have made arrangements to stay first in Hanoi and then will work our way to Ho chi minh city, booking accomodation as we go. We also hope to go to Cambodia.
I think the weather in Hanoi is much colder, what should i pack?will a fleece and jeans and trainers be ok for Hanoi and Halong bay? or will that be too warm, i dont want the luggage too heavy, I have done that before and was overweight on the way to our destination which meant I couldnt buy many gifts!!!
The temperature range for Hanoi in Feb is between 59 and 68 F so you definitely don't need heavy winter wear. Jeans and long sleeves will be fine. If it gets colder than usual (i doubt), you can always add more layers. Once you're there though you might want to buy an umbrella. For Saigon, you can wear your tshirts and shorts .
Well, looks like you will be arriving from the UK, so you are probably used to the cold, so not to worry
Hanoi/Halong Bay are noticably colder than the rest of Vietnam this time of year. If you are trying to save on weight, why not take some long trousers rather than jeans? Jeans are a bit of a nightmare as heavy and once they are wet...well.... I was ok with some long linen/cotton mix trousers and light trainers, but in Halong Bay, I did have to wear a thick jacket sitting on the deck at night. What I would advice is to buy a jacket once you are there cheap, then you can just scrap it or give it to other travellers when you depart for warmer areas.... You certainly won't need it further south.
Vietnam is a wonderful place. Have a lovely time! Just one suggestion - do make sure you do an overnight boat trip around Halong Bay with some kayaking, once you're away from the harbour it's so tranquil, and the scenery is simply amazing!
Thank you Tiuvong and Claireh
Yes I am used to UK's cold weather but I dont like being cold so just wasnt sure what i needed for that part of the trip. I have got a pac a mac so i will take that.
Also wasnt sure if I needed trainers or if my crocs would be ok, they are so light and comfy...
I am not a back packer, I am like a back packer but with a suitcase so I can take 20kgs, doesnt sound alot for three weeks!!!
We will be doing an overnight tour to Halong Bay. I enquired at the hotel we are going to be staying at, they can arrange an overnight de luxe tour for $55 each. That sounds great as I have tried to get quotes from uk companies and it was over £100 each, so I know its best to book when I get there.
We will also be there for TET which should be great. We arrive in Hanoi on 7/2/08 and I think TET is 7-9 Feb.
Any suggestions on where could stay in Nha Trang?
