Hey there friends,

Im wanting to get my amazon jungle experience in Iquitos as i hear its a really amazing experience.
Im probably looking at staying in a lodge but really anything is good i dont actually have a specific trip i want to do.

My main question is should i just fly there and then arrange my trip or should i book it prior to ariving? I would like to maybe spend 1 week there but im not rushed for time so a time limit does not exist.

If you think i should book prior can you suggest someone to use? I generally hate booking with the big agents etc if i can help it but not really sure on this one.

Had a look at a few other posts but non were realy that helpful to what im asking.

Cheers

Iquitos has many travelagents, all of them have offers for Amazon lodges and daytrips.
You dont need to book in advance.

Hey!

I was planning to start a jungle trip in iquitos when i first planned my trip, but I can say now im happy i didnt do it at the end!! I managed to find a tour in Lagunas, a town in the middle of nowhere, by the pacaya samiria natural reserve in the peruvian amazon, about 2days by boat from iquitos. The place is only starting to be developed as a starting point for tours, so the facilities are limited (the lodge in the reserve is being built now, and at the time i was there, in september, no toilets were fully available!) but is a lot less spoilt that the areas of iquitos of manaus, the famous starting points for jungle trips!

It is also WAY cheaper (tours in iquitos were around 60dollars a day, and I paid 20!) and you dont have to spend a whole day travelling to get to the unspoilt jungle. So i guess it depends if that areait is in your way, and what kind of trip you are searching for. This one was probably not the most comfortable one, but i got to see more of the wildlife and experience the jungle much better than other people I know in more expensive trips!

If you finally decide to begin in iquitos, dont worry about booking, there DOZENS of travel agents that will arrange it for you when you get there. It is also better if you speak to them directly, to get a good feeling of what they are offering, so dont rush into booking in advance!

If i can help you in anything more specific, let me know!

good luck!

i am curious about the place you went to by Laguna - how did you get there, how long is a "good stay" and so on?

thanks :)
