Hi all! I'm about to depart from Lima in a few days to spend some time in Arequipa, then Cusco/Machu Picchu, onto Puno/Lake Titicaca and from there La Paz, then Arica, Santiago, Valparaíso, then onto Mendoza and Buenos Aires. This is all going to be by bus. On my way back to Arequipa/Lima I was wondering if it'd be possible to go from Buenos Aires to Uyuni and what the best way to do so would be? If anyone has some other ideas for heading from Buenos Aires to Lima that doesn't basically retrace all my steps (want to see new things) and isn't terribly expensive i'd love to hear them. Thanks a lot!
you could try Bs As to Cordoba/La Cumbre then onwards to Salta in the NW of Argentina.
I really liked both Cordoba and La Cumbre. Plenty to do in the area and the city is very nice to go out in too for a bit of culture, meals, drinks, partying. Near by Alta Gracia (Che museum) is worth a day trip too.
Bus from BsAs to Jujuy. Then another bus to La Quiaca (border town) and stroll across the border to Villazon (Border town on Bolivia). From there you can catch a train to Uyuni.
yep, agree with is posted above!
I would also add that the area of quebrada de humauaca (between jujuy and la quiaca) is REALLY beautiful, the villages of purmamarca, tilcara and such are well worth a stop on your way to la quiaca. Also, dont rely completely on the train there, cause not always departs for unknown reasons! what i did was got to Tupiza in a bus and then travelled the south west of bolivia on a four day trip finishing in Uyuni. it is unbelievable!! dont miss it!!

The northern argentina region of jujuy is very beautiful. Reminded me of the US south west. Instead of going to Uyuni directly you could take a short bus from Villazon to Tupiza and take an awesome 2-3 day trip through the desert that will drop you off in Uyuni.
