a couple of us stayed in Yellow in Rome. It's a few streets away from the train station. It was a lively hostel with a bar next door. Would definately recommend it. Was a lot better than the 'hostel' we stayed in when we first got there, cant remember the name of it, but the dorms were on the 5th floor(lift was broken), electric(plug sockets) in rooms didnt work, no space to move in rooms, and it wasn't a nice place.

I stayed at a hotel called Home Moderne in Paris. It's in the 15th and a 10-minute walk to the Metro and only about 40 Euro a night (cheaper that 2 hostel beds, usually). It's simple but clean - and the elevator works, although it's more like a lifting closet.

For Rome, check out Cross-Pollinate for alternative accommodation. Maybe stay clear of the Termini area, though.

As for trains, ask at any Metro or train terminal in Paris. They'll tell you where to catch the train connections to Rome.

are you just staying in Rome or touring Italy? I would recommend a visit to Naples, its absolutely beautiful. Rome was as far north as i got, we visited various places on the way, naples, sorrento, sora, pompeii, etc. Most of the major tourists places en route. If you need any advice let me know and i will help all i can.

happy travels

Direct overnight trains from Paris to Rome go from the Gare de Bercy, and cost about 80 Euros return for the cheapest seats. Book in advance.

does any one has a website for the trains that runs from Paris to Rome?

You can buy them from Raileurope. You may have to play around with dates to get cheap fares.

I had a good stay at Alessandro Palace hostel in Rome. There's a bar, big screen and everything but I found it comfortable to sleep at during the rowdy nights. It's like the walls are soundproof or something. The Yellow hostel is fine. I actually enjoy party hostels but you won't get much sleep there for obvious reasons lol
