Melbourne, a couple of questions

Travel Forums Australia / New Zealand & The Pacific Melbourne, a couple of questions

Ive finally decided to leave sydney and fly to melbourne next week, going my separate ways from the friend i met in oz that ive been travelling with, as its not really working out any more. However the idea of starting again all alone is a bit daunting now, even though i did it when i arrived in oz 7 months ago!

Can anyone recommend any good, friendly hostels in melbourne where i will have a good chance of meeting people? Also, i would be keen to get a job in a bar there, as i know that this is a good way to meet people, so can anyone tell me how strict they are there on RSA's? I do have one from queensland, but i know i couldnt use that one here in NSW.

And if anyone happens to be in melbourne from next week, i'd love to meet up!! Im hoping that this is the right decison but only time will tell!

With RSA's it pretty much depends on the bar. My freind had to renew hers every state that she was in apart from one

You have to stay at Base in St Kilda, its a really cool place, its only a tram ride away from the centre and its right near the beach. I stayed there when I first arrived in Australia and its brilliant! Have fun!

The Greenhouse is right in the CBD and is an awesome hostel. I stayed there for about 6 weeks in total last year and I loved it. There's always lots of people to meet and lots of cool stuff thrown in for cheap or even free :) Bar work was often advertised on the job noticeboard there too, and obviously being right in the city, it'd be easy for you to visit bars from there and have a chat to them about work in person.
