Hi everyone my gf and I are travelling from November for about 1 and a half years.
We plan to go to the following places,

Canada - 3 months
U.S.A - 2 weeks
South America - 6 months
Hawaii - 2 weeks
Australia - 2 months
NZ - 2 months

basically our question is, is it worth us converting some or all of our GBP into USD while the exchange rate is so good?

The reason we ask is because the USD is obviously a more global currency and so may come in handy? The other option is to get CAD but with the exchange rate from GBP as it is, is it worth doing this now or waiting?

Thanks for any help,

Chris

Apart from off the track places in South America you can use ATMs as you go. I would be inclined to carry too much cash. That said, make sure you tell your bank your travel plans if you are going to use ATMs. I used ATMs in 3 Eastern European countries in a short space of time and my cards were cancelled. Now I travel with a mix of pounds and dollars in cash, ATM (debit) card, credit card.

As for when to exchange, with the markets bouncing around as they are, who knows.
