Thanks in large part to the survey results and the desire for more competitions, we've decided to start running regular photo competitions (plan is once a month). The fun starts now!

We are looking for photos that fit the theme "Red".

You can nominate up to 3 of your photos by tagging them as "redcompetition". These can be new photos or photos that have been on Travellerspoint forever.

The winner of the competition will receive a $50 Amazon Voucher and a boosted monthly photo upload limit of 200MB (well, unless you were a Respected Member already, in which case you already have that limit). The runner up will receive the higher-than-usual 200MB/month upload limit as well.

Nominations for photos can start now and will close on February 10, which is when the voting will start. A public vote will decide the winning photo, which will be announced on February the 26th.

Visit the guide for more details on the photo competition including specific instructions on nominating your photos correctly and some basic terms of entry.

I'm looking forward to this!

Seems that the competition is popular as well.
Every time I open TP or refresh the mainpage some random featured photo appears, with 'redcompetition' as one of the tages
Or is that done on purpose? I mean, that also old photos tagged as redcompetition are shown on the mainpage as randomly shown?
Good initiative by the way!

Nope, no special selection of red photos - just recently featured ones as usual. But of course, many of the newly uploaded photos for that competition are worth featuring, so it is natural that they would become the main photos shown.

Almost 100 photos already entered.

Wow, over 200 photos already! And some very strong contenders, too. Choosing a favorite is going to be pretty difficult for all the voters in the audience.

Voting is now open!

You can choose your 5 favourite "red" photos on this page. Take some time to look through the entries - there's quite a few special shots in there to choose from! I know I had quite a hard time choosing my favourites.

Voting will continue till the 25th of February.

Could you add a link through to the large version of a photo in the popup (under the photo description)? This is going to be an extremely hard choice, so having an easy way to look closer at the details of several photos is going to be helpful - and switching back and forth to the regular photo gallery is going to be painful.

(Also, just for the record, any policy about voting for yourself? I think last photo competition you specifically said not to...?)

Hi Peter! I only voted for 2 and then it said I'd reached my limit. Did I do something wrong...? Can't figure it out!

Silly me.. left my testing number in there - updated now, so you can actually vote for 5.

I've also added a link to view the largest version of each photo if you like.

Voting for yourself? Hmm, no specific policy at this point. Maybe next time I'll build some safeguards against that!! If there is a tie for the winner, I'll pick the one that hasn't voted for themselves.

I've also added a link to view the largest version of each photo if you like.

Thanks. Though it doesn't work right now. *g*
