Thanks for the answers, Sander!!!!!! Cheesecake?

Always! :D (I actually baked one again this weekend; having groups of friends coming over is such a useful excuse for doing that!) ^_^

Speaking of which, do you know Sander ate a full Irish breakfast, an extra bagel with cream cheese, AND a cheesecake--for breakfast? And he's so teenie tiny! Well, if that was in fact Sander...

I suspect that this person, whoever he was (), might want to see if you'd believe the "I'm still growing?" line. (Also, he'd probably exclaim, "It was brunch!")
(I also hear that on other forums, where he might be known by the nickname "Aan", his appetite might have lead to him often being referred to as "Ze Aanimal". )

The winner of the competition will receive a $50 Amazon Voucher and a boosted monthly photo upload limit of 200MB (well, unless you were a Respected Member already, in which case you already have that limit). The runner up will receive the higher-than-usual 200MB/month upload limit as well.

I don't have any photos in the contest so I'm just asking out of curiosity... What if the runner-up is a Respected Member with the 200MB allotment already?
(Do they get their choice of a roll of duct tape or an LP Guide?)

Isa now leaves since she's probably made unwanted waves in the TP Photo Contest ocean...

Where is this photo? I wanted to vote for it, just like Taffski!

This user actually nominated 4 photos - but the competition only allows 3, so only 3 are ever shown. When I looked, I couldn't find this one either, so I think it's the one being left off (which would make sense, considering it's the oldest of her photos).

To those who do think it's there, are you perhaps getting it confused with this one?

Ok, thanks everyone.
I thought I was going insane again LOL. Because I really triple checked all photos from top to bottom and to the top again and couldn't find it.
Actually, I think the one that is missing is better than the other one with the truck on the photo as well. But I guess it is too late to change this?
Cheers!
Michael

Yeah, it's too late. The current selection is cached from what it was on the 10th and won't update regardless of any re-tagging. Not that it stand much of a chance, because it would have had a few days less in the running as well of course. This is why it's important to read the rules :)

No, it's definitely there sometimes. (I've also seen it not be there, despite triple checking.)
At a hunch I'd say you cached the complete list (including all four photos by this user), and then randomize before applying the "three per user" check, probably with another cache-step afterward (?), which means one of the four will randomly not show up for long periods of time.

But yeah, I agree that this is an effect from that user not having stayed within the "3 photos max" limit... (Especially as I seem to know you also alerted the user of this well in advance of the deadline.)

How's the voting going, btw? (As in, how many people have voted so far?) I just spent half an hour reviewing photos, and I'm barely halfway through. I can imagine a lot of people not willing to take quite that much time, but I don't know if that'd mean they won't vote at all, or if they mostly would pick a couple of the "simpler" shots which are immediately recognizable at the small default size

Hmm, both steps should be cached for an eternity basically. Obviously not working as expected :( I'll try to make sure that at least the 3 photos picked are consistent rather than random as they must be now.

49 voters so far. Surprisingly, only 5 haven't chosen 5 photos yet. Good to see that out of the current top 5, 3 were in my selection. Anyway, I won't give anything more away about that

I've definitely spent about half an hour trying to narrow down my choices. First adding, then removing, then adding again. There's a few close calls there!!

I'd actually like to see the results and who voted for what. But I don't think that's possible. A part of putting your images infront of others, for me at least, is to get feedback. Different people see differently, and it always fascinates me.

Are people voting based on what looks good or are they voting based on what photo best suits the theme ?

Are people voting based on what looks good or are they voting based on what photo best suits the theme ?

Both for me, though "best suits the theme" is a tough criterion when the theme is something as abstract as a color.
My votes (and my mental runner-ups) have given preference to images which really showed a pure red color (rather than orange or pink approximations; I didn't quite go into photoshop to measure these colors ;) but basically the closer the red color got to #ff0000, the more likely the image was to remain in my shortlist) and where the actual subject of the photo was red, rather than where the presence of red colors was 'accidental'.
Then from amongst those images I looked at the large versions and judged if they were actually high quality photos (sharp, well exposed, no excessive sharpening, nor obvious photoshop-induced over-saturation).
Travel related got a big plus (either by showing something really characteristic of a country, or the activity of travelling), together with just being a "good" photo (that is, one which subjectively 'worked' for me), where this combination was so important for one of my final picks that it totally overrode it not 'adhering' to the other criteria.
I think after all that, I had about ten photos which I thought all deserved to win, and my five choices from amongst those were based mostly on gut feeling combined with a measure of "how much would I like to have a large print of this photo hanging on my wall"?
