Ok so from what I understand: -

Koh Samui, Phuket and Koh Phangan are the islands for 'peace and tranquility?

Koh Lanta, Koh Jum, Koh Kradan, Koh Muk and Koh Ngai are the unspoilt bays?

and

Koh Tao and The Similans are best for diving?

But the question is... What is the most beautiful island in Thailand?

Answers on a postcard please (or you can just post them here)!

Kho Phangon is my favorite. You can party hard if you want. You can sit on an empty beach if you want. You can hang out with travelers if you want. You can hang with locals if you want.

Small enough to feel like your on a genuine tropical island. Big enough to foster some competition for food stalls, markets, and bungalows (unlike some of the other islands).

Rent a motorbike at under US$5 a day, find a cheep bungalow on the beach with a hammock at under US$10, and enjoy the island life.

I've been there six times and have had a different experience ever time. While the party can get old, there is so much to the island, including a jungle in the middle. I'm living in Singapore now and am counting the days till I can visit again.

Quoting wildfk

Your initial question is "Vote for your favorite isalnd"

OK - X

there you go.
THEN you ask what is the most beautiful....this is purely subjective.....and how will it help you decide as you have set out no criteria whatsoever......you even admit that different islands hve diferent qualities.

If you just want a poll it seems pointless to ask 2 questions both of which are pretty much subjective.....if as you now say you want to form an opinion, wouldn't it be better to set out some details of what you are looking for....in the meantime I hope my "X" helps.

Sometimes it baffles me. If you think it is subjective and wont be able to make a recommendation to Paul then I think it's more of a positive gain to keep quiet rather than giving the "X" ... waste of virtual memory?

Anyway, I'm interested to know which island I should go when I'm in Thailand next month too! :)

Wildfk... Thank you for the two "pointless" posts you have given! - I never intended this post to turn into an argument and I don't wish for it to continue into one!
The reason I didn't set out "details of what I was looking for" was because I have no criteria and I have no requirements and even if I did I would not want my requirements to influence anybodies posts I was purely asking for TP members opinions on their past experiences with the various islands around Thailand.
As a "Thailand respected member" I would have thought you of all people would have had more to say than 'X' marks the spot! - most of us on here are adults who love to travel and share our experiences, I did not think this was kindergarten!
