I really liked Ko Samui but was there almost 9 years ago so not sure what it is like now as it was already getting pretty commercialised then. We found a secluded little beach called Ban Thaling Ngam and stayed in some lovely bungalows run by a Swiss guy called Roli. (I wonder if he is still there.... ) this is what formed my opinion of Ko Samui as it was beautiful and unspoilt.
More recently I went to Phuket, and while Patong was horribly commercialised, we stayed near Hat Karon and thought it was pretty nice.
Anyway, back to topic:
My favourites are:
- Ko Phi Phi (particularly Phi Phi Leh) for lovely scenery
- Ko Lanta for peace and quiet, and food
[ Edit: Removed stuff that no longer made sense after removing posts :) ]
I've cleaned this thread up. wildfk, please do NOT abuse your position as a respected member to flag posts as spam simply because you don't agree with their point of view. We've never had this issue before, and I wouldn't want this kind of thing to mean having to adjust a system that has served millions of travellers so well! From a non biased outside point of view there was much more validity to flagging your posts as inflammatory than Paul's. As you've been on the site for a while I'm sure you've noticed there are literally hundreds of vote type threads around and I think they're a rather fun way of looking at a destination. Sure they're subjective, but so is any other post in a travel forum. That's kind of the point and the difference with say the wiki travel guide or printed travel guides - even those are often subjective.
Anyway, thank you for keeping this thread on the original topic from now on.
