Me and my fiance are planning a Swiss honeymoon. We would like to know how good is it as an idea to visit places north of Alps during early December.. We are looking for a comfortable holiday and will choose between Zurich, Interlaken, Geneva and Lucerne.
Could someone suggest me if its a good idea. Any other suggestion will also be very helpful. Thanks.
NO on Geneva - Boring and not very romantic. But go to Gruyères - nice little village north of Geneva enroute to Bern - another nice city too.
Thanks... What do you think about Zurich, Interlaken and Lucerne (closeby and popular).
What would be the templrature there at that point in time.
I am Swiss and living between Berne and Zurich.
Depends on what you are interested for your honeymoon and on what budget you are travelling.
Zurich is very busy in December, because it is the only time of the year in which shops are also opened on Sundays. A lot of people is rushing in "Bahnhofstrasse" (the most famous shopping street in Zurich) for the christmas shopping. But there are a lot of christmas markets to explore and many events with beautiful christmas decoration. If you are in for some fun and shopping and don't bother the cold days (temperature maybe around 0-2° Celsius) Zurich is lovely.
Lucerne may be the same, but less busy as people are more relaxed. The surroundings of Lucerne is very beautiful with the mountains and the lake. Shopping is almost the same but you have less opportunities for bars and restaurants.
Interlaken is very beautiful and if there is snow also very romantic. Less busy and less people and maybe not much to explore if you are staying several days.
Why don't you plan to go to the mountains like famous Zermatt, Gstaad, Verbier or St. Moritz? Could imagine that for your honeymoon it would be very romantic.
In general, Switzerland in December is very cold and life more expensive than in other places.
