We arive in Dehli on the 10th at a fantastic time of 1am(lucky us)
We have a tight itinary wishing to go an an elephant trek and tiger viewing in Corbett National park(3-4 days)This is our main objective but we feel it would be rude not to visit the Taj Mahal.
Have already done a bit of research and can see there is an overnight train from LAL KUAN to Agra
Questions are: What would be the best route? Dehli-Corbet Park-Taj-Dehli or vice versa?
Should we book from the websites online for the camps near the park or
organise something from Dehli?
Has anybody got a Good suggestable company to book a 3/4 day trek with?
what is a comfortable way to get from Taj to dehli how often do the buses/trains run?
since ur arriving at 1 AM, it would be better if u wait for some time and venture out in the morning
Regarding the questions u asked i think u can make it in 6 days if u visit the bare essentials at each place.
1. The train from Lal Kaun to Agra fort is a good one, i have used that once. From Agra to Delhi train is the best option, lots of fast and air-conditioned trains are available, which can be booked online too. U can check the following sites:
2. U can follow the route Delhi--corbett--taj--delhi. Try to book the Corbett trek from Delhi itself, u can get more information on www.corbettnationalpark.com
do let me know if u need more info
Corbett in February would be great to be in. However this train, Lal Kuan is meter guage train & does not really go up to Agra (infact goes to Mathura, 01 and 1/2 hour short of Agra), best is to come to Delhi by Overnight train Ranikhet Express & Take morning Shatabdi to Agra, if it is too tight, there is same day return service by luxury coach to Delhi.
It would be advised to start from Corbett only to avoid weekend rush ( i guess you are reaching Delhi on 10th February' 07) otherwise either way there is hardly any difference.
I suggest (though I do not know this site's policy) you can book your forest stay & elephant safari through jims jungle retreat, a wildlife lodge. It must be informed here walking tours inside the park is not allowed. And while buying your trip you must insist for an inclusion of night stays at either Dhikala or Gairal or Kanda lodge into the itinerary. Plan out for atleast 04 nights stay at Corbett.
In delhi you can opt for homestays in indian homes, recently introduced concept by ministry of tourism here. Saubhag homestay should be good option.
i am into project consultancy into hospitality industry & has pleasure of doing lot of projects in this beautiful himalayan state of India.
