Am going on RTW trip visiting North America, the UK and Europe. Will be using some hostels. I have read that many hostels do not allow the use of sleeping bags due to lice etc.
I dont have a sleeping bag and am wondering if I will need one at all - I would prefer to have the extra space in my bag!
Any thoughts would be appreciated!
For a trip like that, it's not always worth traveling with a sleeping bag - if your camping/roughing it or going to less developed countries, yes. In Europe etc and only staying in hostels, it's not worth it. Even the places you can use a sleeping bag will have blankets etc available
However, i do highly recomend taking a sheet sleeping bag (approx 2 sheets sewn together) - these are light, small to pack and will stop you paying an extra euro or 2 for shets in every hostel you vists - which on an extended trip can add up to a fair sum of money
I agree for the most part. In Europe I really only used my sleeping bag at airports and trainstations.
I am also trying to weigh up the worth of taking a sleeping bag to nz/usa/canada/europe. I am thinking about times like when I have some friends of friends picking me up from the airport in nz and giving me my first nights accomadation i feel like maybe i should have my own sleeping bag for times like that. But if I generally wont be allowed to use it in hostels then thats a waste of back pain. Does it cost to use hostels blankets or just their linen?
just a thought
