I'm from Shanghai, China. In September I will start my one-year exchange life in UCSB. Living and Studying in the states will be quite an adventure to me.
I plan to visit as many places as I can in the states. but of course, first of all, i'm going to take advantage of the place where i live in, Santa Barbara, as well as other nice places in california. So could you give me information about places worth visiting in California, like the possible routine.
Thank you so much!
California is great and Santa Barbara is a good base - not far from Malibu, Santa Monica, Venice beach, Beverly Hills, Hollywood etc.
Further north, there is the Pacific Coast Highway and on up to San Francisco, which is a cool city. The whole 'Bay area' is worth a look.
To the East of San Fran' is Yosemite too, so you would be wise to rent a motorhome at some point and do some touring.
If you're a Star Wars fan, there are locations to visit too.
One place you might consider visiting right away when you get to Santa Barbara is Solvang. Solvang is about 70 miles north in the Santa Ynez Valley and is a town that is done up exactly like an old Danish town from 200 years ago. Obviously, you can go see it on a weekend from where you are at.
While in Santa Barbara itself, I'd go see the mission, go to the yacht harbor, and hang out on State Street near downtown--as you'll soon discover State Street and along the beach is where everything is happening in the town. (other than UCSB--which is a bit of a party school itself).
