HI,

I am a 30 year old single woman who is planning to travel to Malaysia and Singapore from 27th Dec 08 for about 3 weeks. I know roughly where I want to go, but have been reading alot regarding the monsoon season/..and east and west coasts....which I have no idea which is which!!!

I can not travel any other dates. I would like to ask you which is the best direction to travel in. Also is the monsoon season as bad as it sounds like it is?

One more thing, I will most likely be staying in hostels, is it safe for me to do so..also cause i am a shopper...is it better for me to take a hiking pack and buy a bag over there if needed or can I take my suitcase or will that be too frustrating for me??

Thanks in advance.;)

Hi Amber,

Monsoon Season will be at the East Coast where most of the beautiful islands are located. It starts in the end of October to late February or early March. There's nothing much you can see and enjoy since most of the chalets will be closed and you cant do activities like scuba diving, snorkeling etc. There is an island which is now famous among surfers during the Monsoon Season which is Tioman Island. Many surfers head to Tioman to enjoy big waves.

Hi opospa,

Thanks for the reply...I am not that interested in snorkelling or diving anyway...I really want to more so visit cultural places and of course the animals...do they still run the tours to Turtle Island? And River Cruises. Does it downpour all day or is it more just showers of rain??? Is it still humid?

Thanks.

It rains all day at the East Coast. Sometimes it doesnt stop for few days. Most of the areas at the East Coast will be flooded and that can be considered yearly festival

Turtle Island. It is in Sabah. Yes, they still run the tours although it is Monsoon. Are you planning to visit Borneo as well?

Hi,

Yeah The plans are...

Fly into KL and straight out to Kuching - Maybe Miri - Kota Kinabalu (not climbing mountain, was a scout that was enough mountain climbing for me!) - Sandakan - Turtle Island - KL - Johore Baharu - Simgapore - KL - Home (Melbourne Australia).

All in about 3 weeks!

Please can you tell me the worse effected areas...not east west etc but actual names? I can't work out which ones are east/west coast!
