Hi, i'm spending a week in September in the south of France, does anyone have any advice about Marseille as we're planning on spending 2 days there before flying home from the airport there. Is it a good city or are we better off visiting a different one along the coast?

Are there any dodgy areas to avoid booking accomodation in?
Is there a hostel?

Thank you!

Marseille is a great city to visit. It is next to the mediteranean which gives a great view. Also worth visiting is the Vieux port, the old harbour of Marseille. There is also the hotel le Vieux port with a view on the old barbour, allthough it may be above your budget.

A hostel there is Hotel Kyriad Vieux Port, also close to the harbour.adress: 6 rue Beauvau, 13001 .

hi again

forgot to say that I was in Marseille at the millenium change 1-1-2000. All hotels were booked so had to sleep with many other at the railway station. 31 december there is a great firework show in the vieux port. From this I can advice you to book your hotel in advance so not all are booked.
