Hi to all.

Trying to put some timescales together for my trip.

I am planning to Climb Mnt K, go see the Orangutans and maybe do a couple of dives and some trekking in the jungle.

Seems there is so much to do up there, how long did you stay?

Hey, I spent about 2 weeks in Sabah, but you can definitely do it quicker then we did.

If you are stuck for time you can do,

Mnt K (2 days).
Orang Utans at Sepilok. (1 day).
Diving at Sipidan/Mabul. Totally depends how many dives you want to do. I spent about a week here. The diving at Sipidan was AMAZING!!!
The jungle trek. (3 days). Try Uncle Tan's, they were really good!!

Hope this helps a little.

I did a similar trip to what you're planning (except I went to Turtle Island instead of diving) and it took me two weeks. Some places/activities get fully booked though, so it may be an idea to either book in advance or allow a degree of flexibility/spare days into your travel plans in case you have to wait to do something.

Cheers for the input!

Time is not a issue here as Malaysia is my first stop on 18 months away

I was going to give myself 2/3 weeks here as there looked like there was so much to do/see.

Any other good places to visit that any of you particularly enjoyed please let me know.

The Kinabatangan Jungle/River was pretty good (slept in hammocks in the jungle). Also, I really liked Turtle Island.

While you're in that general area, Mulu Jungle over in Sarawak is excellent. Deer Cave is there which is full of 2-3 million bats which all fly out in the evening. You can also do a few walks through the jungle.

Also in that general area, Brunei is worth a day or two - the water village is interesting and the mosque is impressive.

I could have spent a month in Sabah, but mostly in Sipidan and KK.. but two weeks should give you a good feel - however it's so easy to visit Brunei from KK you might want to add a few days.

we spent 5 nights recently, was awesome! Have look at my blog through the profile. We could easily have spent another couple of weeks...

Cheers again for the info.

Think 2/3 weeks will be fine and may well pop over to Brunei.

@ jhetland - I had already read your blog! I was looking for Malaysia Blog the other day, looks like you had a good time, some nice pictures there.

Thanks again.

Yep, Sabah was great! In retrospect, we would rather have spent more time there, and sacrifised some of the other places we went to instead.

I spent a month in Sabah. Two weeks were spent as a volunteer English teacher in a village, which was great! I really enjoyed the Kinabatangan River. I'll spend three days next time. I didn't get to Turtle Island. That and Sipadan will be included on my next trip. I did not enjoy the orang utan reserve at Sepilok. It's much better to see them in the wild on the Kinabatangan even though they are not so close. I stayed in a longhouse up near Kudat. I liked it a lot but you'd need extra time to do that.
