I'm off to Manhattan NY for 8 weeks, I already have my Hostel booked & paid for.

But I'm just wondering about how much spending money I'll need for 8 weeks in NYC.

So far I have about $2400, $1200 for each month... which I think is about $43 per day (not alot really)

Any idea how much you think I'll need?

depends...do you like drinking... a lot

you'll be fine if you have accomodation figured out. just don't go out to eat every day. and if you find yourself spending too much money just go out and putz around for a while and take pictures.

don't forget to take a grey hound bus to philadelphia (1hr 45min away) for a cheese steak and atlantic city for some gamblin and oh go to the borgata in atlantic city. they have a $30 buffet. seriously you could eat about $200 worth of food in like 30 minutes. If you're gonna be living in america for 8 weeks you have to over eat like an american. only when you feel the food press against your lungs is it ok to stop.

No I dont really drink a-lot, maybe just a-few beers.

I plan on mostly sightseeing & taken lots of pics, I just wanted to make sure that I had enough money to last me.

Since you've got your accomadations covered you should be fine as long as you stick to a game plan and think about how much you've got to spend. Definitely get a montly metrocard as that will help to cut down on your transportation costs. And since you'll be there for a bit find out when you can get into museums for free and go then. The better you plan the more money you'll have for beer!

Since your accomodations are paid for I think your budget is very good. I used to live in New york and after paying rent I lived off of less than that per month. I also went out drinking several nights a week. So I think you should be fine. I would suggest staying with public transport with an unlimited metro card costing only $81 per month. Its cheap and your best bet. Take a cab when you need to. Also for a true experience I suggest seeing China town in Manhattan and then taking the number 7 train into Queens to the Flushing station. That is the real China town. Authentic with no real tourists. It is very close to Manhattan. Enjoy your stay in New York.

Well I've managed to get my budget up to around $55 per day, so hopefully that should be ok for me.

I will def be buying an unlimited metro card, a-few people have told me to buy one... as most of the time I'll be on the subway.

I also know what different sights/attractions I want to see in the City, only thing is I dont mind doing some of them by myself, but I would much rather go along with a tour group... does anyone know any good tour groups in the City?

Check out

www.nycvisit.com

www.manhattancc.org

You'll be able to find the best tour offers on those sites as they are both official NYC tourism sites. If you'll be there for 2 months I would take in a Broadway performance. Sure it may cost a bit (Last time I spent $65 for a ticket) but it's worth the experience.
