Hi, I posted this on the asia forum but I figured it would fit here too.
I want to get from Timor to Australia by boat. Has anybody done the route this way?
I really want to hear from anybody who has an idea about the logistics and also any visa stamp implications. I have an australian visa but if I were to say arrive by fishing boat in Darwin, how would I get it stamped?
Its a pretty heavily patrolled border coming that way towards Australia, and anyone woudl have to report to customs, so that shouldnt be a problem. Friends have sailed that way, but my guess is that you would have to find someone international doing a trip and try and get a spot as crew. Very few fishingboats reach the shores of oz....
Customs ain't the problem, it's finding a boat! You'd have to find someone who was sailing in that direction - there are no regular routes.
