I have an open ticket to India which I need to use by June. I was thinking of doing the Everest Base camp. But I also have a full time job and would have used up quite a bit of my paid leave by then.
1. What is the shortest trip that you can do to base camp (I do want to trek and look around a little bit as well)?
2. Is it better to go for one of these group-trek things? Or can I do it myself, with proper planning and reasonable equipment.
3. I am in good physical health, but I am very new to snow and 'cold'. So is this a suitable first expedition for a novice?
Actually any advise, experience would be helpful in making the decision.
Slight problem in your plan....Everest is in Nepal!!!
If you have a ticket for India.... use India as a transit n move on to Nepal. You should find cheap flights between Delhi and Kathmandu.
From there there are plenty of tour operators conducting hikes to base camp.
You may want to check on Nepal' political stability before you travel.
Yup yup. Forgot to mention the detail. I would need to take a connecting flight as there are no direct flights from here.
I would advise u to visit Leh first instead of the base camp but it all depends on ur preferences. Take a flight from Delhi to Leh and explore the regions beyond Leh, like the Pangong Lake, Nubra Valley and Khardung-la. U can also take part in the numerous trekking options available in Leh ranging from a minimum to 3 days to a month. check for some exciting pic of Leh in my gallery.
The everest base camp trip involves a lot of trekking, so i would advice u to do Leh first to get urself acclaimatised to the high altitude conditions.
Cheers and have a nice trip
