I am planning to stay in Goa for a week at the beginning of April.

I have heard that you get better deals if you just turn up. In peoples experiences, are the prices generally substantially different, compared to booking over the net (a website, or email) as opposed to just turning up.

Also, is Goa (more specifically Palolem) very busy around April?

You dont have to book for beach huts on palolem in advance.the price is not much but then again dont expect anything luxurious.April is not the season so it will not be crowded either actually the best time i like it might be hot though. If you need any more info please let me know.

Toby, just turn up mate, you should be able to get a beach hut with toilet/shower etc for 300 rupees, demands how nice you want it, a hammock on your balcony and security guards (well a guy with a stick) can be worth the few extra rupees depending on your budget. Don't book anything, you get creamed enough in India without being done beforehand.

Its damn hot and humid though you're right - I'll be there in April for a few weeks myself.

I was in Palolem last March and the season was drawing to a close. They start dismantling the huts at the end of April. It was quite quiet, so I'm sure you will be fine in April to turn up and find something - that is what I did. Infact, the first time I went to Goa was one christmas and we managed to find accommodation easily then as well (although we couldn't be too fussy with price). Also, if you turn up in person, you can bargain the price down based on what you see. I only booked one place in India and found out later that I was charged more than everyone else who just turned up!
