afraid from what i say nothing would come near to whistler over there...its mre small scale fields but apparently lots of open spaces. the best report i heard was for mount dobson as have chair lifts (many are two topes and pommels) and never too crowded...south island is probably the best pick but the field in north island is bigger. i did a surf tour with a company called new zealand surf tours in auckland who also do snowboard trips from there

apparently they have had good snow the last few years though so should be good

On the South Island, Mt. Hutt (near Methven), Coronet Peak and The Remarkables (near Queenstown) are the main ski resorts. Not sure though if there already will be enough snow in April, but if you're planning to travel for longer these places would be your best options to go boarding. Maybe check NZski for more details closer to the date. Don't know about the winter season on the North Island but Mount Ruapehu - Turoa and Whakapapa are the major ski resorts.

The biggest challenge you are going to find is the times.. Snow season doesn't seem to start until about July. If your in Auckland let me know I will be there until about March 12th. Then I am doing a 2 week tour of the South Island and then who knows! So if you are in NZ and want to meet up or excahgne plans let me know!
