Heya :)

Im new on here, but thought straight away i'd ask for help...
Im working like crazy this year, so in the uni break at the en of the year i can take an around the world trip, probably for 40-45 days (ish)...

Ok, my basic plan is this (and i am asking for re-ordering to possibly make it cheaper):

Adelaide
Sydney (connection)
Kuala Lumpur
Phuket
Kuala Lumpur (connection)
Tokyo
Vancouver (travel up trans-canadian highway through to Calgary)
New York
Athens
Cairo
Johannesburg
Adelaide

All this including stop-overs....

At the moment im looking at STA travel, and the best i can get for it is about AU$3500, plus taxes.

Is this a worthy price???????

And is 40 days enough time to dedicate to this sorta trip????
Iv been on a 30 day trip of Europe before and loved every day of it as it was always something new, but this is much wider, and is 5 days at most places

And so, how much would i need to budget a day on each leg, with mostly hostel/cheap accomodation (except for phuket where my girlfriend has a resort she's been to before and we will stay at....)

Plus, any ideas of NECESSARY visits while in these areas, or recommendations of places to stay, but still for the budget conscious...

Thanks in advance!!!!!
matt

ps i know Canadian rockies well as i did that trek earlier this year...
And if ur near Jasper, i highly recommend the Mosquito Creek Youth Hostel for a bit of a different experience :D

Personally, I think you'd be much better off just focussing on one area (or maybe two), rather than trying to fit the whole world into 40 days! It seems like a good way to blow a lot of money without seeing as much as you'd like.

As far as the quoted price, that's pretty much what I'd expect to pay in airfares for this kind of journey.

Thanks very much for your help :)

I might do the SE Asia, Japan, American stuff in this trip, and save Europe and Africa for another time :D

Happy travels!!
Matt

I agree. I think that you wouldn't enjoy your trip as you will always be on the move and wont have time to fully apprciate the places you visit. As Peter says, head off to one area i.e. Oz / NZ / SEA / Indonesia and focus all your energy into that
when you have more time to spare, then maybe consider it.

To be honest i'd think u'd have to be a touch crazy to try and fit all those 12 places in 40 days!!! thats less than 3 days per stop not including travelling and some of them flights are long flights, so if u did do it u'd almost be getting in on one flight and flying out on the next one. i definately agree with the other guys, to really enjoy ur self u gotta go to less places.

i went round eastern europe in 30 days and found that was a lot of travelling with only 3 days in each place, and prob not as enjoyable as if i had longer in each place. i'd definately spend the money on one area like se asia or aus/nz/pacific or s america or n america. to do the all the places ur thinkin i think u'd need atleast 6 months if not bit longer

hope u have quality time what ever u do and i definately belive its like the old saying less is more.

andy :D
