Thanks for the info, everybody. I think I'll get the 60-day visa and an Air Asia ticket to somewhere, which after all is less than a cost of a visa even if I don't use it.

Hello Sarusan:)

The Thai immigration rarely ask to see an onward ticket.
U will be more likely to have trouble with the airline u are flying to Thailand with. Airlines are often reluctant to let people on the fight without a return ticket. Ask the airline if this will be a problem before u buy the ticket.

There is no point getting the 60day visa. I had problems understanding the visa immigration details but have looked into it in more detail. Because you are from the uk you get into thailand without a visa. you can stay there for 30 days at a time, up to 90 days , as long as you dont go over the 90 days within 6months. any longer and you face fines and deportation. this is the best option cos you get 30extra days on the visa, the only deal is you have to leave the country after 30days even if its only for one night before going back into thailand.
As for onward tickets i was worried about this but i have just looked into it. Air Asia offers a flight from bangkok to Phnom Penh for 699 baht which works out at 15pounds!!just buy this, if youre planning on doing cambodia you can go there before returning to thailand for 30days and if not its only 15pound!
