Sim Lim Square (nearest MRT station Bugis) and Funan the IT Mall (nearest station City Hall) are where the locals head to. Sim Lim is where all the bargains are but it's a big place and kinda messy. Funan's more sterile and mall-like so little chance to bargain here.

I don't think many people actually go to audiohouse. CASE is our consumer association and you can report any errant/fraudulent shops to them, and also to the Singapore Tourism Board. STB also has a list of blacklisted retailers on their website http://www.visitsingapore.com/publish/stbportal/en/home/what_to_do/shopping/list_of_errant_retailers.html

Have fun shopping! You're right about people buying electronics here...few years back we had an international student congress here and nearly every single delegate left with either a digital camera or mobile phone, some even left with computers and laptops.

Yea, they might well try to rip off an ang moh (westerners)... In my opinion you are better off going to Funan where things are alot more organised and less chaotic (and arbitrary)... Sim Lim was a bit overwhelming, even for me (having spent half my life in Singapore)

I never buy any electronics goods aboard due to the warranty, you'll never know. Good luck.

I don't like Sim Lim for its messiness, makes me dizzy and nauseous whenever I go there. I dunno about jacking up prices, doesn't seem true according to my friends who swear by Sim Lim and nothing but Sim Lim. I do my electronics shopping at Funan where it's calmer. There are people who prefer Mustafa but that's another place that makes me nauseous. Warranty-wise most of my friends from overseas usually opt for international brands and international warranty when they buy something here.

if my memory serves me right... Mustaffa is cheaper than Sim Lim... both allow bargaining... for Funan I don't think you can haggle... the good thing in Singapore is that most items even bargained are not fake... or that's at least what I'm informed of..
