My family and I are planning a trip to Germany and Austria this Christmas holiday. We plan to be there from the 15th through the 26th. We are interested in Munich, Nuremberg, and Salzburg. There are two daughters, 20 & 17. Any suggestions on these cities? Any information about this part of the world at that time would be extremely helpful. Thank you
Hi, TXgirl, you should be in for a treat. Munisch, Nuernberg and Salzburg are delightful during Christmastime, the most so, if it snows, but I have had a delightful Christmastime in Salzburg when it rained, too.
There are a few so called fairy tale palaces in Bavaria, around Munich, built by a crazy Bavarian king. They are definitively worth a couple of trips or at least one, they are so incredible. Just remeber they will be closed on Christmasday and on New Year's day. There are nice Christmas markets in all three of the cities you mention, but the Nurenberg one is probably the most famous. And you can ski in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, if you like.
Hi TXgirl, agree with BasiaAlm that you will enjoy it. Only been there in Munich and Salzburg in spring and that was a couple of years ago. Munich is a huge entertainment place. Can´t remember too many names of places now. However, if you need to get relevant information on hotels, general travel info., I recently came across a site which is a directory for places in Europe and it´s in several languages with a search engine www.eurobizpages.com. Haven´t had too much use of it as I´m still saving for another trip but am sure it´ll come in handy. Hope you have a great Christmas holiday.
