Heading to Beijing next week, i plan on hiking part of the great wall. Any idea how cold it will be there at this time of year?? Im from Canada and its been -30 Celcius here for the last 2 weeks so im sure anything will be an improvement. Will be in Hanoi the following week, wouldnt mind doing the Halong Bay thing as long as the weather isnt too bad, any idea what itll be like there??
Thanks in Advance
Well, generally it's between 7 and 12 max (celcius) and between -3 and +1 min but it looks like the next days will be colder, around 2-4 max and -6 to -8 at night. Beats Canada!
Hanoi/Halong Bay is not too bad, but it's the cool season. Forecast around 10-12 min, 16 max, cloudy at most times.
That's for Hanoi, but Halong Bay should be around the same.
Yeah, I'm in Hanoi at the moment and I went to Halong Bay a few days ago and the weather there was very similar to here.
I found it absolutely freezing when I first got here, but that was because I came here from Thailand. If you're used to -30 then you'll be fine here. This PC I'm using has the weather on the toolbar and the forecast for tomorrow is 13 degrees (I'd still bring warm clothes though).
The weather in the Beijing area can change very quickly this time of year. Another issue is that sometimes as early as March sandstorms can start. And trust me you don't ever want to be out hiking in a sandstorm. Just keep an open mind to which options you have.
This may seem obvious but I would advise checking the weather on the net, China has hit an 'extreem cold front' in most parts over the last two weeks and although it is easing off now I would still suggest a quick search on the net to find out temeratures. In my city this time of year I would normally be wearing a coat and a t-shirt but at the moment I am wearing all the clothes I can find! I would be going to the supermarket with my duvet wrapped around me if I didn't get soooo many funny looks (and you think I am joking)!
