The Dakar rally, which normally runs from a starting point in Europe (originally Paris, now Lisbon) and ends in Dakar, Senegal was cancelled this year after direct threats against it by terrorist organizations.
Due to safety concerns, the 2009 edition will not be held in Africa, but instead in South America, running from Buenos Aires, Argentina to Valparaiso, Chile from Jan 3, 2009 until Jan 18, 2009.
If it's going to be anything the European/African edition, can you imagine what damage this event will do the Argentine/Chilean landscape? I'm not sure that anyone should be glad about this.

I´m glad and Proud my country is in the rally road.
I see they´ll travel roads even argentienans don´t go!!
It will put in the map those beautiful and small towns in "interior" provinces, it´ll show not only Buenos Aires is a point to visit in Argentina.
