Im getting my work visa and heading to New Zealand in the middle of october ('08) and am interested in working on the south island.
I was wondering where is a good place to settle where there will be lots of other younger people on working visas as well....similar to what whistler is like....ive been told queenstown
any other recommendations.?
I liked the looks of wanaka, haast, fox glacier/ franz josef, greymouth, hokitika, picton, takaka, nelson...basically the western coast....Just want to make sure i wont get lonely!
Queenstown would be a great starting point for you. There's lotsa young people there in the same boat as you will be in, so you should make friends and find employment pretty easily. From here, you'll probably find someone to move on with, all the other places you've mentioned are nice, but definitely less populated so starting in Queenstown will let you get into the swing of things
thanks for the advice!
it looks beautiful there...seems to have a good nightlife too!
queenstown is awesome! there are loads of bars, stuff to do, and shops! my friend worked for AJ Hacket Bungy while she was doing her traveling--really cool! and of course, the main reason to go to queenstown is to eat at Fergburger!!! the BEST!!! believe me, you will want to write that name down.........awww i miss it!
but have a great time! wanaka is really pretty too, but definitely quieter. nelson is a fantastic place for summer cuz you can be at the beach everyday--abel tasman is gorgeous! and franz joseph is quirky cool, small town, but gorgeous surroundings. sigh. i'm getting all misty again! but definitely hit queenstown first...it'll be a great introduction
