Im saving money again for next trip, but Im undecided where I want to go. Where ever I do go, its pretty likely I will be travelling alone. This will be only my second trip travelling alone, the first time was a couple of months in Vietnam and a few weeks in Thailand last year. This year I want to up the stakes a bit, so im thinking for a longer trip somewhere. Where ever I do go I want to see it thoroughly and at my own pace. I was first thinking of doing a RTW trip but it gonna take ages to save thousands of pounds for and at least take a year, so that idea is out the window (for now).
This leaves me with the ideas of:
Australia (so far looks the most likley, as I hear its great fun over there)
South America (I have always been keen to see S.A and would love to learn spanish)
Japan amd China (for some reason I want to go to Japan the most, and would love to see China but prob the most expensive option)
But I just can't make my mind up!! Can anyone recomend where to go for around 6months or so on a hostel budget and on my own?
Thanks for any feedback!
I think this is a decision that only you can make. I've been to all of these places and they are all great places to travel, but I wouldn't be able to recommend one over the other because it depends on what you are most interested in. Really that's what it comes down to.
If you are talking money, Australia would be the most expensive. I think it's more expensive to travel there than even Japan, though they are both pretty close. In some parts of China, (in my experience the Southwest) prices are quite comparable to Southeast Asia while other areas are quite a bit more expensive. South America will probably be the cheapest, though in some countries you may find prices higher than you think. Places like Bolivia are as cheap, if not cheaper than Thailand. On the other hand, assuming you are under 30, you could always work in Australia and extend your trip even longer than 6 months.
As for traveling solo, I don't think that matters. In any of these countries, if you make the effort, you will meet people and have a blast.
But I guess if I did have to pick one, I think South America might be the best option. If all you want to do is travel then it's the cheapest as I mentioned. Also, with so many different countries in one area, it would be easy to fill 6 months seeing a number of them, whereas 6 months might be too long for just Japan and China or even Australia. If learning a language is something you want to do than it's perfect. With the exception of Brazil, you can travel to many different countries and still work on learning the same language. You don't have that advantage traveling around Asia, and well, you already speak Australian.
Thanks for the reply Degolasse. Im gonna see how much money I can save before I book anywhere up. To be honest I still don't known yet. But I think its between Oz and south America now, only time can tell............
