The UK is making changes to its work visas starting Feb 29th and being rolled out in stages throughout the year. As I understand it, you will no longer be able to change from a working holidaymaker visa to a highly skilled migrant visa (which will now be know as a Tier 1 Highly Skilled, general sub-category) from within the UK.
I'm currently on the WHV, my question is, now that I have to leave the UK to apply, does anyone have any experience applying for the Highly Skilled Migrant Visa and roughly how long does it take to get it. Should I be making plans to be sitting on the beach in Thailand for 6 weeks while this is processed or worse, do i have to go back home and apply in my home country.
I sent my HSMP application on the 26th Jan. They took the money out of my account on the 5th Feb and now I'm just waiting on whether I got it or not. It's been 4 weeks already and it said on the home office website that 95% of applications would get processed within 5 weeks so hopefully I'll hear back soon.
I applied in NZ. But it says in the home office website http://www.bia.homeoffice.gov.uk/workingintheuk/hsmp/ that you may not need to leave the country...
This thread has been idle for a long time. Hope someone will respond.
Can someone tell if anyone has successfully apply Tier 1 from WHM?
I'm leaving the UK next week to go to Oz and apply at the end of November (I'm having a holiday first). If anyone in Australia has been successful applying for this I would also be interested to know how long processing times were and anything else that might be of interest.
