philistine has indicated that this thread is about Thailand

Greetings travellers!
Im looking for a nice, relatively cheap place to stay during the full moon party period on Ko Pha Ngan.
Im thinking Id rather stay on the quieter, sunset side, Had Rin Nai but within walking distance of the mayhem (10-15 minutes walking is still within walking distance IMO )
Ive been looking around on the inter-web and found heaps of different places, but it seems that only a few have online booking available...
Being of typically western origin I have no secondary language skills (but I intend to change all that and make an attempt at learning as much Thai as I can) so I guess a place that I can telephone and ask questions/make bookings in english would be preferable... if they dont do online bookings that is.

So if your reading this and you've been there, what do you recommend?
Oh, by the way, I work outdoors and I live in the tropics with no air con, so Im quite accustomed to bloodsucking insects and insufferable heat

Thanks in advance!!!

Hi,

I stayed in Had Rin 2 years ago and can strongly recommend it. Very relaxed with nice bars and great accommodation. Obviously over the full moon period the price of bungalows goes up slightly (Think we were paying between 650 - 950 baht). You will always need to book in advance because as you can appreciate it gets busy fast! And would also recommend getting there a few days before the party. Try and see some of the island and not just head down for the party.

I have also heard good things about Had Salad. It is very easy to get a tuc-tuc/taxi to and from the FMP and they run all night.

Have a good 'um.

I cant really say for sure, coz Ive never been there, but i have been to many of these kinds of events over the years and basically the moral of the story is "better safe than sorry".
Not sure if your referring to your personal security or perhaps the security of your possessions, but I guess the only thing you can do is to take a few basic precautions (and Im really sorry if im about to sound liek your Mum here ;))

-dont carry too much cash on you
-invest in a security locker for your important stuff, ie. dont leave anythign valuable in your room
-keep you buddies posted on what your doing and organize meeting spots to avoid getting lost amongst the crowd (which WILL happen).... if your on your own (as I will be when I go) make some friends or at least chat with people who are staying close to you at your accommodation before the mayhem starts and try to tag along with them.
-keep the phone number of you credit card cancellation service handy
-dont swim in the ocean at night when your wasted!

But yeah, like I said Ive never been to this spot/party before so I guess I havent really answered you question..
take my advice with as many grains of salt as you wish and in the immortal words of Bill & Ted "BE EXCELLENT TO EACH OTHER!"

PS. Can anyone else answer Andy's question, coz Im curious myself

If you want to book in advance then Coral Bungalows is a good party-orientated place which takes online bookings. Same Same Lodge is another place that takes online bookings, but it's not on Sunset beach though. It's a good location though (2 mins from Sunrise beach).

If you're not booking in advance then Sea Side Resort is my favourite spot on sunset beach (200-800Baht per night).

Yeah those precautions make sense, but my personal security isnt concerning me as much, which could be slightly worrying i've not heard anything dodgy when ur at the party

i was more thinking about leaving belongs in the accomadation. i've read that some the huts etc are quite rickety and easily broken into, so leaving everything behind bar bit cash for the night for safety but it could get nicked anyways.

is it gd idea to stay somewhere else on the island or stay on samui?

With regard to security, I've been to 9 Full Moon Parties now and on one occasion I came back to my room and there was oil on the door lock, suggesting someone had been trying to break in (unsuccessfully, fortunately). Other than that though, I've never had any problems.

Most resorts have lockers available for hire which I always use though, just to be on the safe side.

been checking out accomadation about pha nang, can anyone recomend My Phangan Resort at biin tai? seems pretty reasonable and about 15 min walk from had rin

I've been looking at My Phangan Resort's location on the map and it's more than a 15 minute walk from Haad Rin. Maybe a 15 minute walk to the top of Haad Rin sunset beach, but it's another 10-15 minutes from there to sunrise beach (and it's a very hilly walk).

There's plenty of taxi trucks go along that road though (price varies - officially 50 Baht during the day, but more late at night or on a Full Moon), or you could rent a scooter for about 250 Baht per day.

Actually, thinking about it - it's about 20-30 minutes from Thong Sala to Haad Rin by taxi truck, and My Phangan Resort is about halfway along the road, so it might even be a longer walk than I first estimated.
