I don't mind the Greyhound buses although I prefer to travel by train. You'll meet some of the strangest characters in the buses here in the US. It's not a bad thing though. I've always found the drivers to be very nice.

Just to inject some true horror into the discussion...

Canada bus passenger stabs, decapitates seat mate

A traveler aboard a Greyhound bus repeatedly stabbed and then decapitated his seat mate, pausing during the savage attack in central Canada to display the head to passengers who had fled in horror, witnesses said Thursday.

Given that, the train is probably not a bad idea...

God, I read about that yesterday--it's horrible. Apparently after displaying this poor man's head, he went back to work on him.

Poor, poor man. He was just a young guy looking for work.

I'd say it's an extremely isolated case. It could have happened anywhere.

Any public conveyance requires vigilance and situation awareness. If you see a rider board wearing a large "Rambo" style survival knife on his belt and a crazed look on his face, you probably don't want to be his seatmate.

As for me,

Greyhound? Not on your life.
