So instead of the usual Tijuana/Cancun/Cabo (mis)adventures, a bunch of us who go to school in Missouri are thinking of road-trippin' it out to New Orleans for our Spring Break (March 22nd- 31st). Has anyone been in New Orleans over this period and if so, what's the atmosphere like? i hear Bourbon Street is pretty packed all year round, but what do ya'll say? also, some of my friends are under 21- do clubs/bars enforce age restrictions here or will it be pretty easy for an underager to party there?

I've also found this cute backpacker hostel online - India House- that is cheap and is getting rave reviews, but if anyone has ever stayed there, would be great to have some firsthand input. Any other reccomendations on what to do/see/eat/drink would be appreciated.

p/s: our route goes by Memphis, would it be worth it to stop a night there and check out Graceland and such? and if anyone has done the Missouri-Louisiana drive before, is there anything else worth stopping for along the way?

thanks, ya'll!

asha

I was carded every, single time we walked into a bar--and I was 32 at the time. They're pretty strict there, I suppose because so many people go to New Orleans to drink (and the booze is pretty cheap). Bourbon Street is always packed with tourists, so if you're looking to party it's probably the place to be. I went in January and there were helicopters circling every weekend night to keep the peace--I can only imagine what it must be like at Spring Break!

If you're looking to see some great sites (although I have a feeling that's not your goal! :) ), try heading out to Oak Alley plantation or a trip on the Bayou. It's much less touristy and gives you an idea of what real life is like in Louisiana. Or have a Hurricane at Pat O'Brien's!
