Hi Everybody !

I am working in Switzerland and I have a work permit.
However, I recently lost my passport and I need to get in Austria !

Do you have any suggestions?
I am thinking of renting a car and drive however I am not sure about the check points on the highway.

I would appreciate if you could share any similar experience !!

Thanks !!

BTW.. I am a Turkish citizen I actually I need a visa...

I suggest you see to getting a replacement of your passport. If your current stay in Switzerland is legal, that shouldn't be a problem. Best contact the Turkish consulate in Bern.

Switzerland is not in the Schengen zone, which means there are checkpoints at the border. The Schengen visa must be issued to your passport. So you still need to wait for it.

Switzerland's not part of the EU, either. I do think we were asked for our passports on the train into Switzerland. Methinks you'll need a valid passport, but check with the authorities to find out for sure. Maybe they can issue you a temporary something or other.

I travelled into and out of Switzerland a number of times on the train and was always asked for my passport. At the Italian-Swiss border, we were even searched and had our passport inspected about 5 times!
So to echo everyone else, don't even try it! If you get caught you could be deported and this will make it hard to get visas in the future for pretty much any country.
