Me and my mates are heading overseas in June to work in the UK. We plan on going to Munich for Ocktoberfest in September but I am finding that alot of places are booked out over most of the period already. Has anyone here been before and can they recommend any where to stay even if it means we have to be further out. Otherwise we will have to be bed hopping from Hostel to Hostel depending on who has rooms available
I went and had to stay in Augsburg, a town about 1 hour train ride - maybe less. BUT alot of people are doing this as well - so book soon.
Quite a number of hostels open their booking for Octoberfest at a certain date in June/July. Check their websites and be ready when that happens. You also don't need to stay for the whole 2 weeks, if you are there for 3-5 days it will be enough. A good strategy is to go in the last few days of the feast, not at the very first day when everybody will be there.
When I was in Munich last July I stayed at Kapuzinerhoelzl.
It is 2 old beer tents converted to a summer hostel. Their cheapest accomodation is on the floor of one with nothing but some blankets, so bring a matress and a sleeping bag.
If you are considering to buy a cheap tent and camp, now would be a good time to reserve camping sites too.
