I'm thinking on getting a working travel-visa this year or next year. I'm a student and so don't have much money after getting the tickets to australia and back. During what time of the year is it the easiest to get a job in australia? I'm thinking of staying in Sydney where i would land, but then again is it fun working the harvest?
I'm also thinking of staying for work and travel only for 6 months. Is there a visa for 6 months and can i stay less than 6 months?
The Working Holiday Visa (WHV) lasts for one year and you have to have this to work in Australia. I don't think there is any other type of working visa.
You can get a job in most places at any time of year, like harvest work, hotel/bar work, and temping jobs. Either sign up with an agency or check out the backpacker notice boards and magazines for work whilst you are out there.
The only thing with bar work is that you need a "RSA" which is the responsible service of alcohol. once you have that, you will be able to pick up work anywhere.
If the bar scene isnt for you, you can always try and get a barista's experience. those two things are pretty much sure things that will get you jobs here in australia.
If you are thinking to go off the beaten track, try going up north from sydney, newcastle where i am from always has that type of work. its just how far you are prepared to go, and how much you want to spend.
hope that helps
