too heavy?

Travel Forums General Talk too heavy?

Hi all

Three days until I leave for my 18 month trip and all of you that have been here before know how bloody excited I am........anyhow, I digress!!
I have just packed my rucksack with everything that I think I will need and tried to leave out stuff that really isn't necessary, the weight of said bag is 27lb or 12kg.
Is this average or far too heavy? It feels ok but I'll probably not say that when I'm dragging it round Malaysia during the hot season!!

I think I took about 16kg and it was pretty heavy, looking back I could have taken a lot less and will definately be travelling lighter next year! I think 12kg is fine though!

i think my boyfriend's was 13kg and it was fine. i started off about 9kg but by the end of my trip i think i was up to around 15kg with all the stuff i had gathered along the way and it was still ok.

just rememered, i did have a seperate bag for some of my extra stuff as i probaby couldn't have carried all that weight on my back, but I'm 5ft 1" and have no strength!

good that you're thinking about leaving unnecessary things. i think 12kg sounds quite manageable but i've been told it's always good to dump everything out into a pile once more before your trip and repack, and sometimes you end up weeding out a few more things you don't need.

Cheers guys makes me feel a bit better

I leave on Monday so tomorrow (Sunday) everything is going into a pile on the living room floor and hopefully get rid of some other bits as mentioned by JungleJano.
