Quoting Midworlder

that way non essential stuff can be left in Airport lockers that I come back to eg Miami .. or people like the kind B&B lady in Amsterdam who has said she will keep my luggage while I flit around Holland for a week .

You wrote it yourself... non essential stuff ...

Biggest rule of travelling is that non-essential stuff stays at home. Don't bring something along unless you really need it every day. If you don't need it during your week-long trip around the Netherlands chances are you don't need it at all.

The difference between a trip lasting 2 weeks and a trip lasting 8 months is the number of times you wash your clothes, not the amount of stuff you take. On the trip lasting 2 weeks you do laundry once, on the 8 months trip you do it 32 times.
