My husband and I are going backpacking through Europe for three months starting mid-may. We are going down Western europe, through the mediterrainean, and up through eastern Europe. We are on a tight budget but cant work out which it better. Bus or train? At the moment I am considering getting a railpass for western europe and then busing the rest of the way. Any help would be appreciated!

Bus for Eastern Europe, and train for West. Purchasing a railpass is probably going to cost you more than purchasing your train trips individually once you are actually in Europe. Eurolines(bus service) is super cheap and usually travels between countries rather than within countries. I've been told that train travel in Eastern Europe is unwise/unsafe compared to bus travel. Hope this helps!
