Hi, my parents already booked us accommodations as a wedding present so we will be staying in Playa Hermosa in Guanacaste, Costa Rica for two weeks (end of May / beginning of June). I know this is the beginning of the rainy season, but will it be quite rainy already in that region? I'm curious because after this we will be travelling to Antigua, Guatemala for another two weeks. You can't fly out of Liberia to Guatemala, only from San Jose. Will it be very difficult arranging land transportation to San Jose that time of the year or will we have to fly from Liberia to San Jose? Also, we've never been to Central/South America before (and neither of us speaks Spanish - although we're considering taking classes in Guatemala). Would you recommend flying from Costa Rica to Guatemala or taking a bus? How do they compare in terms of cost (including border crossing fees, overnight accommodations, meals and anything else I haven't thought of) and time? We have to check out of the resort by at least 10 AM June 6th but the resort in Antigua isn't booked until June 7 so we've got a little bit of space, and really if the bus trip is great then I wouldn't mind being a day later or so. Otherwise we could go stay somewhere completely different in Costa Rica with the extra day - any suggestions?
Both of us are sport rock climbers and have our own gear. Are there places to go rock climbing in Costa Rica? And would it be best to go with an organized tour group of some kind?
Being based in Guanacaste, what are the recommended activities (obviously we're fairly active and adventurous) for that region in that time of year?
Thanks so much!
