Mark2008 has indicated that this thread is about Iran

Can anyone tell me the rules for entry into Iran from Turkey by motorbike? I'm thinking of riding there to visit Esfahan and long lost family. My bike is a high powered sports bike and I don't know if I'll be allowed entry. I won't need the visa for entry since I'm a citizen, but I've never been there and don't have a clue of what I'll have to do to get in and ride to Esfahan on my bike. I read somewhere that sports bikes were banned in Iran and that fuel was being rationed.

I dont know if it also counts for motorcycles but for cars you need a carnet de passage. Which is a travel document and its purpose is that u bring ur vehicle back to country of origin. The costs are abt the same as the current value of ur vehicle.

For a sports motorbike you'll need a special permit saying that your bike is in transit. I'm not sure that a citizen will be allowed to have it. But if you speak Iranian it should be easy for you to find out. I know plenty of people travel by motorbike from Turkey to Pakistan via Iran and most of them have bikes with more than 2500 ccm.

you also will need new plates in Iran. But as one of your first destinations will be Tabriz in Iran, then pop along to Nassem in the Tourist info office, they will sort you out no problems. Weekdays not including Friday.

I met bikers with no carnet de passage and they were fine, but Pakistan was a no go, and they got into grief. Still its not worth trying to get away with if it will ruin your trip!!!
