kerynd has indicated that this thread is about Germany

Hi all!
Can anyone provide any insight as to when the German Wings timetable is available for August '08? I've had no luck searching the site and holding back from calling Germany as I'm in New Zealand - and they're not replying to emails but imagine that isn't a priority for them.
OR
can anyone suggest the most efficient and cheapest way to get to Paris from Cologne in late August (will be on a Monday)
Thanks in advance!

Hi there,

talking about cheap and efficient: Rainbowtours is a bus company that we all travelled with cheap ages ago already.
http://www.rainbowtours.de/metropolen/paris/tourenbeschreibung.html (sorry, page in German), they may give you a one way ride.

As for German Wings, did you try here and several dates?
http://www.germanwings.com/skysales/Search.aspx
I only tried one and failed, but I may have missed the day they travel.

I have one phone number, where you may be successfull with a cheap skype call. When I asked they were very helpful:
0049-40-5075 1905

www.bahn.de is the very well working train system. But it is not necessarily cheap.

Best from Jessica

Unfortuantely I had no luck either with the German wings timetable, nor finding a flight with Air Berlin.
You might have to wait for another while for things to change (or actually let me know and I'm happy to call them for you;)) or check the French and German railway websites.
Problem with the French site is that you can't print out your ticket but will have to have it send to an address. Given that you are from New Zealand, that might add up to the price.
One last option could be a shared ride service, the website is in German but it's pretty simple and straight forward.
You could always have a look here a few days before you want to leave Paris.

thanks for your quick replies! i had no luck with Air Berlin either - i may have to sit tight as it seems German Wings only have this flight available until the end of March - hopefully the summer ones will be posted soon!?
Thanks Jessica will have a look at Rainbow Tours out of curiosity :)

Just a quick update. I tried several times to call the German Wings phonenumber mentioned above, but no one answered. To phone the callcenter costs 1 € the minute , so I couldn't do that. Sorry.

hm, strange with the number. i used it when i flew german wings last september, and they were very helpful.
+49-40-5075-0 is actually the number of the airport of hamburg. the rest is the gw extension.
maybe they are not flying now and so it is closed?

usuall charter flights are in the schedules for the following season (summer) already in march. dont know why they dont show any flights on that website.

but going into any travel agency they should ge the flights on the screen. apart from that they should get the answer for you.

You may also try the Train service from Cologne to Paris.
There is this special train called Thalys that connects Cologne - Brussels - Paris. you may book this train on either the German railways website or on the Thalys Website. Iam providing both the links for your reference.

oh sorry steff but thank you for trying to call! everyone's help is much appreciated :)
and thanks sunilsm_in; we are in fact using this Thalys service to get from Paris back to Cologne after our stay in Paris, however we had thought we'd like to fly to Paris so we can get there quicker (plus out airport transfer to our hotel is already booked!)
As far as i know EasyJet and Ryan Air don't fly from Cologne to Paris direct?

1) a good way to look for flights is skyscanner.net

2) AFAIK germanwings fly Cologne-Paris daily

3 ) A possible alternative could be with Air Berlin from Duesseldorf to Paris ORY. Fare is currently 29 EUR.

The problem with flying Germanwings in August is that Germanwings (like many other budget airlines) cooperates with the charter airlines that shuttle Europeans to holiday destinations. Your germanwings plane might be flying from Berlin to Egypt instead of Cologne-Paris in August. It is too early to tell yet, it all depends upon the holiday destinations Europeans book in May/June. Cologne-Paris is a business traveller's flight and in August there are less business traveller's going this way - therefore there is very little information at this point.

IIRC the schedule for summer with most budget airlines will be released at the end of march and beginning of April. At least that was the case last year.

thanks t_maia!
That makes sense about the business travel timetable - i suppose i will just have to wait and see what happens. We can only fly from Cologne and do have to land at Charles de Gaulle because our airport transfer is already arranged. I just expected that that German Wings would offer this flight over summer - i don't see why they wouldn't - but hey i shouldn't assume these things.
The worse that can happen is that we loose our money on the airport transfer and just get the train coz i'm not so keen on paying 300pound for a one-way flight with Lufthansa (so says skyscanner).
Thanks again everyone for your advice :)
