Travel Forums North America Luggage on Greyhound

Me and my mate are planning to buy a mountain bike and cycle around Niagra Falls and various other locations in the US. Is there any room for a bike on the Greyhound busses?
Thanks

I agree with Strong.101 - check with Greyhound as they don't always allow bikes in the baggage compartment and definitely not inside the bus cabin.

Another member is very big into BMX and did a 2-3 week tour of the northern east coast area by bike. Somewhere along the way he needed to take Greyhound to another destination. The driver would not allow him to put his bike in the baggage compartment. Said member waited until the driver walked away, placed the bike in the baggage compartment and moved some luggage around to block it from sight. When the driver returned, he didn't look inside but just closed the doors. Needless to say, the driver wasn't keen on finding out the bike had made the trip when they made the next stop. If memory serves, it was the journey's end point for this member so he was disembarking anyway. Had it not been, he and the bike would have been barred from continuing on Greyhound.

They will allow certain things at certian times but best to get the information straight from Greyhound so you aren't stuck with a bike that can't travel with you.

Good luck and enjoy the trip!

If there is one thing the US of A is not, it is a bike-friendly country. I haven't been over there a lot, but I got that much. If you are buying your bike there best arrange it with the dealer that he will take the bikes back.

Check out the links on this page, maybe they can help you.
