I have to ay that although Thailand loves claiming to be a "hub" it has a long way to go before it becomes the "hub of scams".
There is a "bring-it-on-them-self" factor in all of this.....people have advised 'common sense" but it would seem that some people leave that together with their brain at home when they go abroad and try to rely on a dose of paranoia instead.
Think about who will rip you off...think about if it really IS a rip-off....do you care if someone takes you for a wee ride?
Do you really think you are going to get a HUGE bargain or pay for your holiday with an unexpected windfall? Would you offer a complete stranger a room for the night with no stings attached. If you were on $25 dollars a week would you buy someone a drink?.....etc etc?
at the end of the day just do ONE thing....don't LOOK like a victim.....
what does a victim look like?
Well I'm sure there's a million and one ways, but for a start don't stand in a street with a map in your hand looking lost and wearing a Rolex watch......you get the gist?
Why store things where if they are stolen you loose EVERYTHING?
Why believe that man is a Uni graduate who just loves to show people his home country? - for nothing??
People ARE nice and helpful, but you don't get something for nothing out of the blue...well not very often.
