I just find it strange/sad that there's been over 6300 views to a post about "disappointing travel destinations". The minute I saw that thread, I knew it was going to attract all the negative sob stories. I guess people just want to see that, its like watching a train wreck, or all the rubber necks on the freeway at the scene of an accident. One person that has a bad time or is "bored" by a town can be another persons best adventure. Travel is about what you make of it, dont go blaming the location.

I at least thought "dormitory sex" would have given it a run for it's money...only 300 views! Who'd have thought disappointment wins out over sex. Whats wrong with you people!

I'm guessing this thread will get about 4 views since theres no sex or disappointment involved. Move along people, nothing to see here.

I'll tell you what it is.....the dorm sex thread was started just a few days ago (3 March). The disappointing destinations thread on the other hand, was started on 15 Feb last year ;)

Yep, just a matter of time. Look at the 'list countries you have visited' topic...over 16,000 views...started 29th of nov 2004!

But I agree with you Dodger on the fact that whereas someone has a negative experience, someone else can have a great time in the same place.
On the other hand, I see some similarities sometimes as well. Like London or Reykjavik...overrated or just simply boring (latter)

Interesting thread, Dodger!

The (newest) dormitory sex thread isn't dead yet! As Katrina (hey_monkee) stated, this is a "young" thread. The Hostels, where can u have sex thread in the Europe Forum went on for 6 months or so and had 67 posts. Granted, it's not as impressive as the disappointing destinations one... There have been other hostel sex threads in General Talk but they tend to die out when they become a virtual sex guide, someone jacks them or they become inflammatory. Even if this one ends up on page 2, someone will resurrect it and it will live for another day. The disappointing destinations thread has seen the back pages at times too. Just when I think it's gone for good - poof - there it is back on page one. Most Dangerous Country in the World? thread racked up more posts with a whopping 135.

People like train wrecks. It gives them something to do when not having dormitory sex. Threads like these are the "reality TV' of the forums. The Most Dangerous Country = Survivor, Dormitory Sex = Big Brother and Disappointing Destinations = The Amazing Race. (Granted, I have honestly never watched any of those shows so only working from the commercials to make the comparisons.) Give me a Michael Palin adventure any day!

Since Michael has resurrected the Dangerous Countries thread - it now has 136 post and has been viewed 52,321 times!! (It was started May 22, 2005 and ended November 8, 2007 - until today, of course.) There are gaps of 4 months or more between postings so it just goes to show, people seek out such information from time to time. I'm still a bit amazed at the number of views versus the number of posts. Wonder if everyone viewing took notes...

I just made a post about how I drove down to washington D.C. for the weekend with a friend. two days, two nights, two girls! Things did not go how we planned at all but we met some really interesting fun people!

Then I went to the museum of native americans and saw some pictures of my great-great-grand-dad and great-uncle and aunt...pictures that we have in our house and pictures I've never seen! I was not expecting that at all, it was surreal. needless to say I had a really good time in dc and got some good stories out of it.

Then I see someone posted Washington D.C. as the most disappointing place they've ever been too. It was one of the first posts. haha. everyone's different.

Disappointing travel destinations.... it's all about expectation.

For instance, did I ever tell you about this gorgeous, large-breasted, blonde babe I lusted after named Crystal? Her real name ended up being Stephen.

Ok so is that a story of you being disappointed or your expectations being exceeded?

Dissapointed. But even more so because she'd earlier told me that she was a nymphomaniac and her father owned a brewery
