Hi all,

I clicked on a link to an article on UNESCO's World Heritage List and thought I'll start this. How many sites have you visted so far? Here's mine, which I've visited in the last 4 years-

Australia
Great Barrier Reef
Blue Mountains
Sydney Opera House (I'm surprised this is one)

Austria
City of Vienna

Canada
Old Quebec

China
Great Wall of China
Summer Palace

UK
Westminster Abbey

France
Notre Dame

Germany
Aachen Cathedral
Cologne Cathedral
Zollverein in Essen
Bremen Town Hall and Roland

This year I'll at least be visiting the Statue of Liberty and Berne Altstadt :)

I remember I made a list a while ago, because it interested me somehow. It thought it was somewhere around 70 or 80, so almost 10% of the total.
Then again, although I still find it interesting, I am surprised as well that some places are on the list and others which deserve it a lot more, are not
In general though, the more the better I guess, the cultural and natural world can have any protection nowadays in my opinion

I agree with Utrecht to some extent - there are a lot of deserving places missing from the list. I believe this is because countries need to lobby UNESCO to get places included. In some cases, countries decide not to because they feel they have better things to do with their money. For instance, Nan Madol in Micronesia is clearly worthy of a listing, but apparently the Micronesian government just didn't spend the time lodging the application.

Anyway, I still love listing things, so here's mine so far

Canada (1): Old Quebec City
USA (3): Grand Canyon National Park, Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, Statue of Liberty,
Azerbaijan (1): The Walled city of Baku
Japan (4): Himeji Castle, Historic Monuments of Ancient Kyoto, Historic Monuments of Ancient Nara, Shrines and Temples of Nikko
Australia (3): Walls of Jerusalem National Park, Royal Exhibition Building and Carlton Gardens in Melbourne, Sydney Opera House
Solomon Islands (1): East Rennell
Austria (2): Palace and gardens of Schönbrunn, Historic centre of Vienna
Belgium (1): Historic Centre of Bruges
Croatia (4): Old city of Dubrovnik, Historic complex of Split with the Palace of Diocletian, Plitvice Lakes National Park, Historic city of Trogir
Czech Republic (1): Historic centre of Prague
France (1): Paris, Banks of the Seine
Germany (3): Cologne Cathedral, Museumsinsel (Museum Island) in Berlin, Upper Middle Rhine Valley
Hungary (1): Budapest, the Banks of the Danube, the Buda Castle Quarter, and Andrássy Avenue
Italy (1): Historic Centre of Rome
Luxembourg (1): City of Luxembourg
The Netherlands (2): Kinderdijk-Elshout, Rietveld Schröderhuis in Utrecht
Norway (2): Bryggen i Bergen, West Norwegian Fjords
Poland (3): Kraków Historic Centre, Auschwitz Birkenau, Historic Centre of Warsaw
Russia (2): Historic Center of Saint Petersburg, Kremlin and Red Square
Spain (3): Real Alcazar in Seville, Historic Centre of Cordoba, Historic City of Toledo, Güell Park, Güell Palace and Casa Milà in Barcelona
Switzerland (1): The Old Town of Bern
United Kingdom (6): Stonehenge, Bath, The Palace of Westminster, The Tower of London, Canterbury Cathedral, Edinburgh
Vatican City (1): The Properties of the Holy See

Phew.. a total of 48. Looking over the list is kind of painful though - there's so many places that I was very near (like in the same city) and didn't see! Oh well, next time ;)
