What are the most beautiful castles in Europe?
I think it is a good idea to make a list.
For what I have seen so far I would say:
01. Windsor Castle
02. Neuschwanstein
03. Edinburgh Castle
04. Caerphilly Castle

If you like castles come to Kent more castles than any other county in the UK.

I walked around the castle grounds and small parapets in Caen looking for an entrance, only to realize the whole thing had been blown to bits in WWII. Here I thought there was a secret underground passageway to the rooms or something.

So--don't put that one on the list.

not yet mentioned:

Alcazar in Segovia, Spain
Hohenwerfen - Werfen, Austria
Sterling Castle - Sterling, Scotland
Türkü Castle - Türkü, Finland
Schloss Moyland, Bedburg, Germany
Schloss Waldenburg, Waldenburg, Germany

The almost a castle or more than a castle category:

Suomenlinna - Helsinki, Finland (more a fortress island, but I think it should count)
Alhambra - Granada, Spain (at least part of it is an Alcazar / Castle)

These are beautiful castles in the literal sense. I however much more
prefer to see and feel places which have an authentic medieval atmosphere
take for instance Dover Castle in Kent, or Bodiam in Sussex and the very best
(for me) being Conwy castle in Wales.
Yes I know that these places are in ruins partly but I prefer to go and walk around these
sites as opposed to walk into a 'pimped' castle made to appeal to the tourists.
I think it's time to breath some new life into this topic, any thoughts?
